Goodwood Revival Visiting Tips

If your planning on visiting Revival then these Goodwood Revival Top Tips will help you have a much more enjoyable time. This information is great if it is your first time at the Goodwood Revival. There is general advice on many aspects of the weekend event.

Tickets

Goodwood Revival is always popular and the weekend tickets almost always sell out well before the event. You have to order them early to avoid disappointment. I recommend the weekend ticket as there is so much to see you can't really manage it all in a day. The Friday is the quiet day, Saturday & Sunday are extremely busy as its the weekend.  These 2 days also have the most going on in terms of Cars, Drivers, Celebrities and driving action on track.

Where to stay?

There are many options to stay at Revival.

Camping

Goodwood have lots of camping space in the fields around the Goodwood Estate which is where I stay as a Photographer as it’s closer than any Hotel or B & B.  If you camp it is only a 10-20 minute walk to the entrance.  With over 200 camping plots available for camping vehicles, caravans and tents  The campsites have very good facilities such as toilets, showers etc.

Hotels B&Bs

Hotels & B&Bs are a plenty but if you choose this option !!BOOK EARLY!! as these fill up very quickly well in advance of the event.  Unless you book one very close & leave early each morning you will get caught up in the mass of traffic jams around chichester.

Travelling to & from Goodwood Revival

Car

Many people living in the surrounding areas drive as normally its only a 30 – 60 minute drive.  During Goodwood Revival, I would at least double if not triple journey times due to the traffic.  If your taking your car book a Car Park Ticket before you travel.  You can do this when buying your ticket.  Pack food and water in your car as you may need it when stuck in traffic. Leave home early, really early so don't get stuck in lots of traffic!

Bus

Many of the bus companies will have extras buses and special services to the Goodwood Revival.  There is a free bus shuttle service to and from Chichester Train Station which is only a short journey.

Train

Chichester Train Station is the closest to the Goodwood Revival. There is a free bus shuttle service to and from Chichester Train Station to the Goodwood Revival.

Motorbike/Pedal Bike

If you live close enough to cycle or own a motorbike this is a good way to travel as you don’t have to sit in the traffic jams.

Helicopter/Plane

Many companies offer a flight service to and from the Goodwood Revival.  Also if your lucky enough to have your own Helicopter or Plane you can fly to Goodwood Aerodrome just a few minutes away from the Goodwood Revival event.

At the Revival

Dress Up

Dressing up at the revival is a must, although not compulsory in most areas you will feel like the odd one out as almost everyone will dress up in 1940s -1950s style clothing. So visit the charity/military/vintage shops well before the event and get your outfit ready.

Weather

Sunshine - The Festival site has plenty of shaded areas if it is Hot and sunny. Always bring Sun cream, A hat & Sunglasses!

Photography

Festival of Speed Photography is lots fun as you can get so close to the action.  For my tips on Photography at Goodwood Revival please go to my Photography guide below.

Paddocks

This were you will find the Formula 1 cars and drivers with some of the big teams such as Ferrari, Red Bull & Mercedes.  You can get up close with the cars, mechanics & drivers. This is also great to under the cover of the cars when the team are working on them.

The Track

The famous motor circuit is the main attraction at Goodwood Revival where the crowds can watch cars and motorbikes race round the sweeping curves past the main grandstands in front of The Pits, on to the curved section as it sweeps away to the back of the circuit along the picnic areas into the final corner before the chicane and over the finish line.

You are able to walk right around the outside of the motor circuit to view the racing from different angles. With food and drinks available on the way or you can hop on the tractor trailers to save your legs.

Grandstand Seats

Grandstand Seats are in some prime locations such as in front of the start line, perfect for each race start. They give a great view over the crowds and give you a chance to stay out of the weather if needed. These cost extra on top of the standard ticket and should be booked in advance or when you buy your tickets to avoid disappointment.

The Startline, Chicane (Members Only) and Woodcote Grandstands are all allocated seats. An alternative, very popular option, is the ‘Roving Grandstand’ ticket. This allows ticket holders to move between any of the roving Grandstands at Lavant Straight, Lavant Corner, Fordwater, and Madgwick, where you can sit in any seat.
